American Airlines, Delta announce June cargo numbers

Delta is riding a 10 percent year-to-date increase in cargo tonne miles when compared to the first sixth months of 2010. The carrier has flown 1.17 million miles so far in 2011. Delta’s results outpace the year-to-date totals from American Airlines, which show a 3 percent decrease in year-over-year tonne miles.

Though Delta’s year-to-date figures are cause for celebration, the carrier put up negative growth in the month-over-month category. Tonne miles last month were down 1.3 percent when compared to June 2010.

American Airlines’ month-over-month numbers for June show a 7.8 percent decrease in miles. The carrier recorded 159,221 miles in June 2010, but only 149,769 miles last month.
