An AirBridgeCargo B747-400 has transported sports equipment from Frankfurt to Sochi in the first of a series of charter flights. Sochi, on Russia’s Black Sea coast, is hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics and is building the entire infrastructure from scratch.
The Russian regions are common destinations for Volga-Dnepr Group’s “cargo supermarket” service. ABC expects expects increasing demand for the transportation of heavy and oversized cargo to Sochi over coming months as companies engaged in various construction projects call in material and equipment.
The service “will also provide other customers of AirBridgeCargo with a direct uplift solution for general cargo to this dynamically developing region of the Russian Federation,” the operator said.
