Miami-based Aeronautical Engineers (AEI) has received the world’s first Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from the FAA for the MD80SF passenger to freighter conversion.
The STC includes the conversion of the MD81, MD82, MD83 & MD88 models of which there were 779 passenger units manufactured.
“AEI currently has a backlog of 20 units and is forecasting more than 100 MD80SF 12-pallet configuration conversions over the next 10 years,” said Robert T. Convey, AEI’s vice president of sales and marketing.
