Airbus returning to nickel batteries

Airbus returning to nickel batteries

Airbus announced Friday that it is going back to using nickel cadmium batteries for its A350 XWB aircraft program instead of lithium ion main batteries.

Airbus assured that the lithium ion battery it has been developing is safe, but because of recent incidents involving Boeing, Airbus has reverted to using traditional nickel cadmium batteries.

The airline said it will follow any findings of the ongoing official investigation into lithium ion main batteries.

Airbus said it doesn’t expect this to affect the A350 XWB’s schedule.
