Copenhagen Airport grew more in 2012 in terms of cargo than most other major European airports.
Copenhagen had 6.4 percent growth in 2012. With 354,269 tonnes of cargo last year, Copenhagen is the 13th largest cargo hub in Europe.
Belly cargo at Copenhagen increased by 12.4 percent.
Copenhagen’s growth is set to continue with China Cargo Air increasing its flight frequencies between Shanghai and Copenhagen and Emirates Skycargo recently opening a new cargo service from Dubai to Chicago via Copenhagen.
The cargo carried at Copenhagen ranges from pharmaceuticals and IT equipment to machinery, expensive fashion clothing and luxury food.
“In a Europe hit by crisis, with cargo generally showing a falling trend, the 6.4 percent growth in Copenhagen last year was a very good performance. More cargo is often a sign that the economy is picking up. That’s good news,” CEO Thomas Woldbye said.
