The week in brief
- Etihad Cargo (pictured above) has its first round-the-world freighter routing in conjunction with Atlas Air Worldwide. The jointly operated routing connects Etihad Cargo’s Abu Dhabi hub with destinations in Asia, the U.S., South America and Europe. In early May, Etihad Cargo signed a multi-year Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance agreement with Atlas Air to provide the Boeing 747-8 freighter with its 138-tonne cargo capacity to operate the new schedule.
- CargoWise, a technology services company for logistics service providers, announced a successful 12-month expansion in the Asian region that has seen revenue growth of 17 percent, while the number of users has expanded by 16 percent.
- Swissport International Ltd. has signed a contract with Service-VS, the ground handling operator at Vnukovo Airport in Moscow. The contract paves the way for Swissport International to start operations in Russia.
- About 700 aviation leaders are gathering in Cape Town, South Africa from June 2-4 for the 69th International Air Transport Association Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit. This is the first time the AGM is being held in South Africa and the third time in IATA’s 69-year history that the AGM is taking place in Africa.
