Wattman

AIRLINES

Emirates Airline has promoted the 15-year industry veteran Marc Shedden to the post of cargo manager, western Australia. He will be in charge of cargo movements at Perth International Airport, but will also oversee two daily passenger flights. Shedden has worked at Emirates for nearly 10 years.

UPS Freight has promoted Paul Hoelting from vice president of corporate business development to senior vice president of sales. Hoelting succeeds the retiring John Fain, a long-time executive of Overnite Transportation who was instrumental in UPS’s acquisition and transformation of Overnite into UPS Freight. John McDevitt is taking over for a retiring Allen Hill as the head of UPS’ corporate human resources group. And on the humanitarian side of the company, 35-year UPS veteran Eduardo Martinez has been chosen to direct the UPS Foundation when Ken Sternad enters retirement.

Virgin Atlantic Cargo has promoted Marie Epstein from regional sales manager, Americas, to regional vice president of sales for the Americas. Epstein, who has 28 years of experience in the freight forwarding, brokerage and airline industries, joined Virgin Atlantic Cargo in 2010 after leaving Delta Air Lines/Northwest Airlines Cargo, where she served as strategic partner manager/director of strategic accounts. Prior to this appointment, she held sales and account management roles in the U.S. with Pakistan International Airlines, Pan Am and American Airlines.

Angela Titzrath will take on the role of board member for personnel and labor director for DHL on May 1. She succeeds Walter Scheurle, who is stepping down from the board in April after a 12-year stint.

TNT Express has nominated Marcel Smits and Sjored van Keulen as new members of its supervisory board. A final decision as to their appointment will be made at the company’s annual general meeting in April.

Cathay Pacific Airwayshas tapped Sebastien Granier as sales director for the Eastern portion of the U.S. The 22-year industry veteran, who spent most of his career for Air France, will be based in New York.

AIRPORTS

Schiphol Cargo has hired Berend-Jan Rietveld as marketing and communications manager. The 12-year marketing-industry veteran will assist Schiphol’s six-person cargo team.

The Connecticut Airport Authority has hired Dan Carstens as a marketing consultant. His job involves helping identify new routes and other ways to improve the stature of Bradley International Airport. Carstens formerly served as the publisher of The Airport News.

Strategic Aviation Solutions International has hired John Mc Donagh as an associate

responsible for the EMEA region, excluding Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Mc Donagh, who boasts more than 40 years of experience in the aviation sector, served as CEO of Cargo Service Center until its acquisition by Swissport in 2002. Most recently, he worked as an independent aviation consultant specializing in cargo, ramp, sales and security handling.

Air Partner has appointed Richard Everitt, who currently serves as the company’s senior independent director, to the position of non-executive chairman. Everitt worked as director of BAA plc for 10 years and has also held the title of chief executive at National Air Traffic Services. He is currently the chief executive of the Port of London Authority. The industry veteran succeeds Aubrey Adams, who has served in that role for the past three and a half years.

NEO Air Charter has appointed Stefan Kohlmann as joint managing partner. A 23-year airfreight veteran, Kohlmann most recently served as managing director of Chapman Freeborn’s German operations. At NEO, he is responsible for expanding the company’s network, both through the establishment of sales representatives in European markets and the appointment of network partners worldwide.

Damco has announced several key appointments of senior executives in its North Asia region. Logistics veteran Henriette Hallberg Thygesen has transitioned from global chief process officer for Damco to CEO of the North Asia region. She replaces Steffen Schiottz-Christensen, who remains in North Asia as vice president and head of airfreight for the recently acquired New Times International Transport Service Co. Ltd. Also, Richard Morgan is now chief commercial officer of the North Asia region. Reporting directly to new CEO Thygesen, Morgan is responsible for the overall commercial and business development activities in the region.

Grant Wattman has been appointed to president and CEO of Agility‘s project logistics business. Wattmann, who serves on the board of The Logistics Institute, previously worked for Panalpina, GeoLogistics and ABB Lummus Global.

DB Schenkerhas promoted Helgi Ingolfsson to the position of UK managing director from his current role as director of air and ocean freight for Scandinavia. Ingolfsson succeeds Jochen Muller.

Bart Jan Haasbeek’s resume reads like a who’s who of air cargo. In addition to co-founding Inforwarding in 2001, Haasbeek spent nearly seven years at OAG Cargo, most recently serving as vice president of strategic cargo sales. He now begins a new chapter in his career, transitioning to Saudi Airlines Cargo’s country sales manager for the Netherlands. AIRLINES

American Airlines has an­nounced the retirement of two com­pany officers and a host of changes to the company’s global leadership team. Robert Reding and Mark Burdette have retired as executive vice presi­dent of operations and vice president of employee relations, respectively; Monte Ford has resigned as senior vice president and chief information officer. James Ream is now senior vice president of operations, in addi­tion to his continuing role oversee­ing maintenance and engineering. Denise Lynn has transitioned from vice president of flight service to vice president of employee relations. Maya Leibman has been promoted to se­nior vice president and CIO. Beverly Goulet has been named chief restruc­turing officer.

DHL has made numerous changes to top management roles. Amadou Diallo has transitioned from CEO of DHL Global Forwarding for Africa and South Asia Pacific to CEO of DHL Freight, with responsibility for DHL’s international road and rail freight services. Moreover, his predecessor, Thomas George, has been named chief operating officer of DHL Global Forwarding, a newly created posi­tion. George now leads DHL’s global air and seafreight operations, includ­ing value-added services. DHL Global Forwarding has also tasked Kelvin Leung with leading its North and South Pacific regions. Prior to this appointment, Leung served as CEO for the forwarding arm’s North Asia-Pacific sector.

Cathay Pacific Airways has hired Martin Murray as its new finance di­rector. Murray, who comes to Cathay Pacific from Swire Pacific, is respon­sible for financial reporting, treasury, corporate finance, taxation, risk man­agement, internal audit and compli­ance in his new role. He replaces James Hughes-Hallett.

KLM Engineering and Mainte­nance has appointed Ton Dortmans as executive vice president. Dortmans, who previously served as senior vice president of operations for KLM’s en­gineering and maintenance sector, is now responsible for maintenance of the KLM fleet, part of the Air France fleet, and all third parties served by Air France and KLM. He succeeds Pe­ter de Swert.

Carson

The Metropolitan Nashville Air­port Authority has hired Trudy Carson as air service development manager. Carson joins MNAA from Tampa Internation­al Airport, where shewas director of air service develop­ment. She also pre­viously served as chairwoman for the International Air Service Committee of the Airports Council International. In her current role, Carson helps attract new passen­ger and cargo services to Nashville International Airport.

THIRD PARTIES

Geodis Wilson has appointed Gil­bert den Bekker as vertical market director of retail and fashion. The DHL, Danzas and Grimaud Interna­tional veteran is based in Paris and is responsible for developing and ex­panding the company’s logistics ser­vices in the global retail and fashion sector.

Toll Global Forwarding has ap­pointed Siegfried Nottelmann as managing director for Germany. Not­telmann previously served as manag­ing director of Andree & Wilkerling, which Toll acquired in August. In his new post, Nottelmann manages the combined businesses, comprising of­fices in Hannover, Frankfurt, Dussel­dorf and Stuttgart, and a workforce of approximately 100.

Strollo

BDP International has appointed Richard Strollo as managing direc­tor for South Asia. The 18-year logis­tics veteran comes to BDP from DHL, where he served as managing director in the Philippines. In his new role, Strollo is responsible for all business operations in Singapore, Malay­sia, Indonesia, Thai­land, Vietnam and Australia.

Lufthansa Technik Group has announced a change of personnel in two executive positions. Christoph Meyerrose, who served as manag­ing director of Lufthansa Technical Training in Hamburg for more than 10 years, is now managing director of Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services in Schönefeld, Berlin. His predecessor, Andreas Kaden, who held the post for 13 years, is now at the helm of LTT.

ORGANIZATIONS

Airlines for America has named Elizabeth Shaver as director of cargo services. In this role, she over­sees cargo functions at Airlines for America, coordinates with the association’s members, and serves as a liaison to various cargo and Customs functions within the U.S. and foreign governments. Shaver joins A4A from Delta Air Lines, where she performed various duties, including managing Customs and facilitating corporate security.

Al Baker

The Arab Air Carriers Organi­zation has nominated Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Bak­er to serve on the International Air Transport Associa­tion’s Board of Governors. IATA’s general assembly must ratify Al Baker’s nomina­tion at its June annual general meeting.

The Airforwarders Association has named Commodity Forwarders Inc. President Christopher Connell to its 16-member board of directors. Throughout Connell’s 20-year career with CFI, he worked his way through various ware­house, customer service and sales positions before transi­tioning to his current role in 2006. He assumes the seat re­cently vacated by Pacific Air Cargo President Beti Ward.

Phil Callow has been promoted from CEO of UBM Medica UK to CEO of UBM Aviation. Callow has a background in data digital development and publishing. Before start­ing his UBM career in 2005, he held various business-to-business publishing roles at the BBC.

Star Alliance has appointed Mark Schwab as CEO of its central organization, based in Frankfurt. Schwab comes from Star Alliance member United, where he served as senior vice president of alliances and sat on Star Alliance’s management board. He succeeds Jaan Albrecht, who recently took over as CEO of Austrian Airlines.

AIRLINES

Saudi Airlines Cargo has appointed Bart Jan Haasbeek as country sales manager for the Netherlands. Haasbeek, who is based at Schiphol Airport, comes to Saudi Airlines from OAG Cargo, where he most recently served as vice president of strategic cargo sales. The airfreight veteran also co-founded Inforwarding.

Meahl

Deutsche Post DHL has created the position of global chief commercial officer for Bill Meahl, who previously served as chief operating officer of DHL’s supply chain division. In this role, Meahl is responsible for Global Customer Solutions, DHL Solutions and Innovations, as well as the sector management of DHL’s core strategic industries. He also coordinates commercial activities for the company’s top global customers requiring services across the express, global freight forwarding, supply chain and global mail businesses. In addition to these tasks, Meahl serves on DHL’s executive committee and leads the company’s global commercial board.

THIRD PARTIES

Grant Devonport has been promoted to CFO of Toll Group. The industry veteran previously served as CFO of Toll New Zealand and divisional commercial manager of Toll Global Resources before becoming the acting CFO of Toll Group in September. Deveonport also worked at Village Roadshow and the National Australia Bank.

de Groot

TNT Express has appointed Jan Ernst de Groot as general counsel and managing director of external affairs. A veteran of the airline industry, de Groost most recently served as managing director and a member of the managerial board at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. In his new role with TNT, de Groost is focusing on legal and regulatory affairs, including sustainable development.

Joe Lance has joined Lynden International as district manager for Chicago. An industry veteran, Lance most recently held senior management positions at IJS Global Inc. and ALG Worldwide. His transportation background also includes managerial positions at OIA Global Logistics, The ICI Group, MSAS Global DHL and Expeditors International. He is responsible for business development and operations in Lynden’s Midwest region in his new role.

Due to the retirement of Michael Korn, DB Schenker has named two new board members, Jochen Muller and Thomas Hauck. Muller is now in charge of airfreight, special transports and events, while Hauck is overseeing oceanfreight and project business. Muller previously ran Schenker Limited, and Hauck manages DB Schenker Logistics in North China.

OBITUARY

Raven

John Raven, a former Brussels-based advisor for The International Air Cargo Association, has died at the age of 91. In an email to TIACA members, Daniel Fernandez, the organization’s secretary general, wrote that Raven “was a remarkable man, in many ways, and his passing is a sad loss to our industry. “John made an invaluable contribution to TIACA, representing our interests in Brussels for over a decade,” he added.

ASSOCIATIONS

The Intermodal Transportation Institute at the University of Denver has elected James Benz and Gary Long to its board of directors. Benz currently serves as chief operating officer of Genesee & Wyoming Inc. while Long is president and CEO of OmniTrax Inc., where he has overall responsibility for OmniTrax and the companies under its management. Both men will serve three-year terms.

The National Association of Freight & Logistics recently named 10 logistics professionals to its board of directors. The elected officers include: Freight Systems CEO David Phillips as president; Kevin Ennis, vice president of business development at dnata, as vice president; Nadia Abdul Aziz, director/partner at UNASCO, as secretary general; and Al Rais Cargo Agencies Finance Controller Suman Chakrabarti as treasurer.

Swearingen

The Messenger Courier Association of America has hired Shawn Swearingen as government affairs director. Swearingen, who most recently served as state policy manager for a national healthcare association, brings to the position extensive experience in government relations. In his new position with MCAA, he supports the association’s local chapters on state-level issues, advises members of the national organization on upcoming legislation that could impact their businesses and helps draft legislation that will encourage the free flow of goods throughout the U.S. and abroad.

OTHER

Bell

Boeing has announced that James Bell will retire from his position as executive vice president, corporate president and CFO on April 1. Greg Smith, corporate controller and finance vice president, has been elected by Boeing’s board of directors to succeed Bell as executive vice president and CFO, effective February 1; the two will work together over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition. Diana Sands, current vice president of investor relations and financial planning and analysis, will replace Smith as corporate controller.
