Cathay Pacific Cargo increases service to India

Cathay Pacific is launching twice-weekly cargo service to Hyderabad, India, on May 17. That same day, the Hong Kong-based carrier will also introduce a third weekly cargo route to Bengaluru, a service that will address the increased demand for freighters to and from India’s leading IT hub. read more

$1.7 billion net loss in Q1 for American’s parent

The parent company of American Airlines, AMR Corporation, reported a $1.7-billion net loss in the first quarter of 2012, but saw consolidated revenues of $6 billion, a 9.1-percent, year-over-year, increase. Excluding reorganization and special items, the company saw a loss of $248 million, compared to a $405 million loss in Q1 2011. Southwest posts double-digit Q1 cargo gains

Southwest Airlines posted notable cargo growth during the first three months of 2012, with revenues surging 19.4 percent, year-over-year, to $37 million. The carrier also reported a net income of $98 million for the first quarter, although staggering fuel prices led to an $18 million net loss. read more

Qantas Freight launches Chongqing route

Qantas Freight will commence weekly cargo service to emerging manufacturing hub Chongqing, China, on April 20. The flight — which will depart from Sydney every Friday evening, arrive in Chongqing early Saturday morning, and land in Chicago mid-Saturday afternoon — demonstrates Qantas’ commitment to Asian expansion, according to a press release. read more
