DHL to launch around-the-world service

Beginning March 27, DHL will connect Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Leipzig via an around-the-world express flight. The new route will benefit from DHL’s extra Boeing 777F capacity, provided by the multiyear deal the integrator inked with Southern Air in November. read more

TSA, CBP ‘going forward’ with ACAS program

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration and U.S. Customs and Border Protection are moving forward with their joint Air Cargo Advance Screening pilot program, TSA Administrator John Pistole told AirCargo 2012 attendees in Miami. Pistole, who reiterated airfreight’s vulnerability to a terrorist attack, believes the ability to provide shipment-level data prior to takeoff will help the airfreight industry mitigate risk. read more

UPS buys TNT Express for $6.77 billion

After protracted public negotiations, UPS will acquire TNT Express for $6.77 billion, a deal that comes a little more than a month after TNT Express rejected UPS’ $6.4 billion acquisition offer. The all-cash offer comes out to a per-share price of a little less than $12.50. read more
