The great unification experiment known as the Global Air Cargo Advisory Group now has a voice on the World Wide Web. Aveos Fleet Performance, a supplier of MRO services to Air Canada, has filed for protection under Canada’s Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act, immediately ceasing all operations and commencing an asset-liquidation process. Former Aveos customer Air Canada recently announced a contingency plan that will cover the carriers’ MRO needs previously undertaken by the company. read more
IATA’s push to get every country onto the e-airwaybill bandwagon — an initial, cautious step toward full e-freight implementation — lives and dies by the Warsaw Convention. The convention states that in order for a carrier’s liability limit to stay intact, the AWB must be a paper document. Frederic Leger, IATA’s head of cargo business process and standards, moderated a panel at last week’s IATA World Cargo Symposium exploring the Warsaw Convention and other regulatory challenges to e-AWBs as part of the regulations track. read more
