Global Aviation Holdings files for bankruptcy

World Airways’ parent company, Global Aviation Holdings, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on February 5. Amsterdam Airport reports North American import surge

North American imports to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol increased 13.3 percent, year-over-year, in 2011, despite only modest cargo growth for the year. The Dutch airport also saw a 15.2 percent, year-over-year, surge in exports to the Middle East. read more

European cargo declines in second half of 2011

Financial problems in the eurozone dominated headlines in 2011, but new ACI Europe data indicates that such troubles didn’t affect airline operations equally. Freight volumes at European airports started off strong last year and then declined in the second half of 2011, while passenger volumes remained robust, improving 7.3 percent, year-over-year. read more
