HKIA cargo volumes plummet

September freight traffic slowed significantly at Hong Kong International Airport, with cargo volumes dropping 6.1 percent, year-over-year. The airport, which bested Memphis International Airport as the world’s busiest cargo airport in 2010, handled only 325,000 tonnes last month. read more

Lufthansa Cargo could lose ‘double-digit millions’ due to ban

Lufthansa Cargo’s freighter services to the U.S. and China are the worst affected by the shock decision on October 11 by the Hesse Administrative High Court in Germay to ban night flights at Frankfurt Airport. The carrier had planned for 10 night flights on its winter schedule beginning at the end of this month. A permanent ban could cost the carrier somehere in the “double-digit millions of euros,” said Karl Ulrich Garnadt, Lufthansa Cargo’s CEO, during a press conference in Berlin. read more

Cargolux connects U.S. to Australia and West Africa

Cargolux launched weekly freight service connecting the U.S. with Australia on October 19, and the carrier will begin weekly cargo service connecting Chicago, New York and Houston to West Africa on October 22. read more
