U.S. House votes to ban EU ETS participation

In a landslide vote, members of the U.S. House of Representatives have voted to prohibit U.S. carriers from participating in the European Union emissions trading scheme. The passage of H.R. 2594 on October 24 has raised the ire of numerous EU officials — especially Jo Leinen, chair of the European Parliament’s environmental committee. Q3 brings cargo growth for American carriers

The third quarter of 2011 was very profitable for both Delta Air Lines’ and Southwest Airlines’ freight businesses, with cargo revenues surging 13 percent and 12.9 percent, year-over-year, respectively. Competitor American Airlines also saw revenue growth in this three-month period, reporting more modest gains of 4.8 percent. read more

Forward Air’s profits surge

North American logistics provider Forward Air reported solid growth in the third quarter of 2011, which ended September 30. Operating revenue rose 11.7 percent, year-over-year, to $135.7 million, while net income surged $4 million from the third quarter of 2010, totaling $12.9 million. read more
