Lufthansa announces major fleet upgrade

The Lufthansa Supervisory Board has approved the purchase of four Airbus A320s, two A380s and one A330-300, along with five Embraer195 aircraft. The total order, valued at €1 billion, signals a major fleet overhaul for the German carrier. Aircraft deliveries are slated to begin in 2012. read more

Arik Air to commence service to Abu Dhabi

Nigerian carrier Arik Air announced that it will launch thrice-weekly service to Abu Dhabi International Airport. Commencing November 29, Arik Air will fly from the UAE capital to Lagos every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday on Airbus A340-500 aircraft. read more

United Cargo, Forward Air ink trucking deal

United Cargo and Forward Air have signed a multi-year agreement citing Forward Air as the carrier’s primary ground logistics provider in the U.S. It’s a deal that will boost cargo operations for both United Cargo and subsidiary Continental Cargo tremendously, a company spokesman said. read more

In an address to attendees of the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation USA 2011 conference, The International Air Cargo Association Secretary General Daniel Fernandez advocated the importance of a less-restrictive airfreight sector.
