UPS posts modest Q1 growth amid challenges

Sluggish freight volumes out of Asia and shifting product mixes stifled some of UPS’ first-quarter growth, despite a 10-percent, year-over-year, surge in diluted earnings. Still, double-digit increases in the integrator’s Domestic and Supply Chain and Freight segments — with operating profit rising 13 percent and 19 percent, year-over-year, respectively — helped the integrator stay profitable during the quarter. read more

March cargo demand plunges in Asia-Pacific

Both cargo demand and capacity declined in the Asia-Pacific region last month, Association of Asia Pacific Airlines data revealed. Ruslan operates series of An-124 flights to Uganda

Ruslan International, which manages Volga Dnepr’s and Antonov Airlines’ combined Antonov An-124 fleets, has completed a series 15 cargo flights to Entebbe, Uganda, on behalf of the Japanese peacekeeping contingent of the United Nations Mission in Sudan. The flights contained power generators, non-combat vehicles, communication equipment and other supplies for the Japan Ground Self Defense Force. read more

Asian cargo drop affects Schiphol’s Q1 traffic

Despite a 15 percent, year-over-year, decline in Asian freight traffic, Schiphol Airport’s first-quarter numbers only dropped modestly from 2011. The Amsterdam airport handled 358,220 tonnes of cargo during the first three months of 2012, a 3-percent, year-over-year, loss. read more
