Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide joined forces with the International Air Transport Association to launch an online supply chain management certificate this summer.
“The air transport industry plays such a key role in our global society,” said John R. Watret, Embry-Riddle Worldwide chancellor. “As a leader in online education, Embry-Riddle Worldwide looks forward to collaborating with IATA to enhance performance and professionalism within the air transport and supply chain management fields.”
The supply chain management certificate is also detailed in a story about workforce development in air cargo.
Designed for individuals working in the industry, the certificate’s coursework will address topics such as basic cargo procedures, loading, sourcing, procurement, packaging, distribution and customer service.
“Air cargo transports goods worth in excess of US$6.4 trillion on an annual basis. This is approximately 35 percent of world trade by value. The sector is an important component of the aviation industry, which collectively supports 57 million jobs worldwide,” said Ismail Albaidhani, head of IATA global partnerships and learning innovation. “IATA designed its global academic partnership program to meet the challenge of developing the next generation of our industry leaders, and Embry-Riddle is our first academic partner with strong global experience in aviation studies.”
Other education initiatives are also taking place. The International Air Cargo Association is launching a professional development workshop this summer in the Netherlands.
