“In the remaining 100 days, interior work must be carried out on the terminal, rental space developed and appurtenant areas, including green spaces, created,” according to a press release. “Building site facilities will be dismantled, final cleaning will be carried out, and the building will be furnished.”
Since earlier this month, 10,000 airport testers have been performing dry runs of airport procedures at BER; these trials will culminate in May. April is also a critical month for Berlin Brandenburg Airport, as it will begin receiving equipment and systems from Tegel and Schönefeld airports.
The airports currently serving Berlin won’t shut down for good until the evening of June 2. Lufthansa and airberlin will begin flight operations at Berlin Brandenburg Airport the following morning.
These carriers are also expanding their service offerings to address the growth anticipated by BER’s launch. Lufthansa will fly to 30 new destinations from Berlin Brandenburg Airport and deploy six additional aircraft on its Berlin routes. Additionally, airberlin will launch non-stop service to Los Angeles in May and continue to maximize its long-haul route to Abu Dhabi, which commenced in January.
Air France, Condor and easyJet will also increase their frequency to Berlin and announce new routes to BER this summer, according to the press release.
