Ship Early Before Rates Increase
FedEx Corp. says it will increase the standard list rates for FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery by an average of 4.9 percent on Jan. 4, 2010.
This follows a previous announcement that it would increase FedEx Express rates by an average 5.9 percent for U.S. domestic and U.S. export services at the same time.
The company says the FedEx Express increase will be partially offset by reducing the fuel surcharge by two percentage points.
Meanwhile, with environmental tips for pre-holiday shippers, FedEx suggests: • Use the smallest box possible while adequately protecting the shipment. • Purchase boxes made from recycled materials. • Reuse packing materials or look for ones that are eco-friendly to cushion the box’s contents such as shredded paper, biodegradable packing “peanuts” or light-weight used clothing. • Save a truck stop.
By the end of 2009, FedEx says its hybrid fleet will have logged more than four million miles since 2004, reducing fuel use by 150,000 gallons and CO2 emissions by 1,521 tonnes.
