Alitalia Appoints New GSA For Italy
Alitalia Cargo has appointed AF-KL Cargo as its GSA in Italy from November 2009. The group will responsible for marketing, selling and handling cargo on the airline's international passenger flights.
The Italian domestic network will remain the responsibility of Alitalia Cargo.
AF-KL Cargo already represents Alitalia in Canada, Japan and the USA. By next April it will represent all of Alitalia’s cargo operations in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
The Alitalia Group reported a third quarter operating profit of $22.5 million - a turnaround from a first quarter loss of $315 million. For the first nine months of 2009 the airline, partially owned by Air France-KLM, had an operating loss of $387 million.
The airline sold four MD80s and added four A320s to its fleet during the July-September period. Alitalia has a 55 A320s and 12 A330s on order for delivery by 2013.
