Air Asia X Links Dublin With Chengdu
Air Asia X, the low-cost longhaul arm of Malaysian carrier Air Asia, has added four flights per week from Kuala Lumpur to Chengdu in south-west China and increased to six its services to Australia's Gold Coast. From December, the carrier will operate 11 flights a week to Melbourne.
Ian McCool, managing director of IAM, the airline's Irish GSSA, welcomed the move. “Ireland’s continuing focus on airfreightable commodities such as pharmaceuticals means that every new carrier and destination is welcomed. The market was therefore very receptive to Air Asia X, " he said.
IAM has represented Air Asia X since March 2009 when the airline began now daily long-haul services from London Stansted to Kuala Lumpur.
“Although Air Asia X, like most airlines, is offline to Ireland we connect to their Stansted gateway using nightly express truck services, and this has made their network viable to our local market. The addition of these new frequencies and a further key destination represents a significant enhancement to the service we are offering," added McCool.
AirAsia and Air Asia X operate over 400 flights daily from hubs in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia with 78 Airbus A320, A330 and A340. IAM is the Irish member of EGSAC, a GSA network with more than 130 stations in over 30 countries.
