DHL increases footprint in pharmaceutical industry
DHL Global Forwarding has launched a Competence Center at the Vienna Airport. In addition to expanding the carrier’s reach in the healthcare and life sciences sector, the center will ensure temperature-sensitive shipments remain adequately refrigerated.
Offering 1,640 square feet of refrigerated space, the Competence Center is projected to transship approximately 20,000 pallets each year. Manufacturers can also rest assured that each item is stored at the correct temperature: DHL marks each item according to its refrigeration needs.
According to DHL, products can be refrigerated at temperatures ranging from 2°-8 ° Celsius to 15 °-25 ° Celsius.
Ronald Friedreich, managing director of DHL Global Forwarding Austria, believes this new capacity has strong implications for pharmaceutical companies.
“Our new Life Science Competence Center is of particular importance for our customers in the drug and medical device industries, since it offers solutions tailored to their specific needs. We’re expanding our global cold chain network. We’ve also created excellent conditions for our customers to tie into global retail markets,” Friedreich said in a statement.
In addition to refrigerating the products, DHL also loads, unloads and packs the goods and ensures that the necessary transportation equipment is present.
