International airmail starts in Shenzhen

After a delivery of express mail destined for Taiwan hit its facility, officials at the International Cargo Centre Shenzhen (ICCS) are trumpeting the "official start of the international airmail business in Shenzhen."

The Shenzhen post office and Guangdong express mail logisctics co. sent the mail to be loaded on a China Airlines flight to Taipei.

Officials at the ICCS have signed contracts to route international regular and express mail to Frankfurt and Los Angeles on China Airlines and Lufthansa flights. The cargo will leave from the Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport.

According to a press release issued by the ICCS, "this move will play a positive role to speed up the international mail transfer, make full use of local aviation resources of Shenzhen and further promote the development of Shenzhen postal business."

ICCS is currently in expansion mode. In May, the seven-year-old company handled 7,184 tonnes of cargo, an increase over the previous month. ICCS also handled its first charter on May 29.
