Lufthansa Cargo flies generators to Japan

Workers load generators bound for Japan on an Antonov 124

Chartering an Antonov 124, Lufthansa Cargo Charter has flown two 13-tonne generators from Frankfurt Hahn Airport to Tokyo Narita.

The shipment, which also included two 40-foot containers containing parts for the generators, is bound for one of Japan's largest beverage producers. The company will use the generators to help ensure production doesn't take a hit during the hot summer months.

Lufthansa Cargo Charter teamed up with Agility to get the shipment to Japan, which is still experiencing spotty electrical service after the earthquake and tsunami wrecked a large portion of the country's infrastructure.

"Lufthansa Cargo Charter and Agility have been working together on special projects many times. Just recently, we organized a project from Germany to China and now the transport to Japan," Reto R. Hunziker, managing director of Lufthansa Cargo Charter, said in a statement.
