TNT strengthens links to India
TNT Express has commenced a five-times-weekly B767 freighter service from New Delhi to Belgium. The plane will stop over in Dubai on its way back to India.
Weekly capacity for the flights is expected to be 210 tonnes.
The new flights establishes TNT Express flights to Europe in a total of five Asia countries. TNT now flies to Europe from New Delhi, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore.
According to Abhik Mitra, managing director of TNT India, the added capacity will help maintain TNT India's growth. The division has been recording 20 percent year-over-year growth, he said.
"The addition of a dedicated TNT freighter from India will enable our customers to become even more competitive due to faster factory-to-market lead times and improved efficiency," he said. "With the frequency of our service, it will now take just one day for shipments to reach Europe from New Delhi."
The International Air Transport Association (IATA), in its latest profit outlook, pointed to India as one of the great emerging markets in 2011. Even with high fuel costs and the drop in activity courtesy of the natural disasters in Japan, demand in the entire Asia-Pacific region will outpace capacity growth by 0.5 percent. For comparison, IATA expects European capacity to grow faster than demand by almost an entire percentage point.
