Asia Airlines Report Slower Decline

The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) reports an 18.6 percent drop in freight tonne kilometres (FTK) for May 2009 compared to a year ago

With a 16 percent cut in cargo capacity, the AAPA average load factor was 64.8 percent for the period.

Commenting on the results AAPA Director General Andrew Herdman said, “The air cargo business remains severely depressed following the slump in international trade, but does appear to have stabilised. " He noted that the May figure was an improvement on the average decline of 23.2 percent during the first five months compared to the same period last year.

Collectively the 17 AAPA member airlines carry 10 million tonnes of cargo a year - approximately one-third of global traffic. ANA remains the launch customer for Boeing's delayed B787 with an order for 50 aircraft and deliveries beginning in the first quarter of 2010.
