Northwest Narrows Losses

For the fourth quarter, Northwest Airlines reported a loss off $8 million, compared to a $267 million net loss in the final three months of 2006. Its $3 billion in revenue was a 3.9 percent increase. Results include a $14 million pre-tax loss associated with the sale of its remaining equity interest in Pinnacle Airlines. Excluding this item, Northwest's results were break-even for the fourth quarter of 2007.

But cargo revenue took a beating. Northwest reported $241 million in cargo revenue for the final 2007 quarter, a drop of 0.4 percent compared to the final three months of 2006. For the year, the airline reported about $840 million in cargo revenue, an 11.2 percent drop.

For the full year, Northwest's overall pretax profit of $764 million marked a 154 percent increase. The airline reported total annual revenue of $12.52 billion, a 0.3 percent drop.
