Kitty Hawk Forms Ground Subsidiary

Kitty Hawk, the Dallas company that operates domestic air freighters and recently launched an airport-to-airport trucking service, said it formed a new subsidiary dubbed Kitty Hawk Ground to manage that less-than-truckload business.

The company also said it hired USF veteran Gary Jensen to be vice president and chief operating officer of the new Ground division, reporting to corporate President and CEO Robert Zoller.

Zoller said that Toby Skaar, COO for the Kitty Hawk Cargo unit that manages the company's overnight heavy-freight service, has used his staff to get the LTL network going in recent months.

But Zoller said that "with the expectation for increased growth we feel it is now an appropriate time to transition toward a corporate structure reflecting the significance of the LTL ground network." Jensen was most recently vice president for operations at YellowRoadway subsidiary USF Bestway in Phoenix and at USF Red Star in Auburn, New York. Before that, he worked for Logistics Insights, which handled auto industry logistics, and Consolidated Freightways.
