Emirates SkyCargo set a new record by carrying over 1 million tons of cargo in the year ended March 31. Freight increased by more than 180,000 tons, or 21.5 percent, from the previous year's 838,400 tons. The airline reported strong growth across its whole network.
The cargo division's revenue of $1.2 billion was 29.2 percent or $274 million higher than the year before. Cargo contributed 21 percent to the airline's transport revenue. Group revenue was up 27 percent overall to $6.6 billion. Net profits were $762 million, up 5 percent.
During the year, Emirates added five freighter aircraft - two Boeing 747-400Fs and three A310-300Fs - to the fleet. Scheduled freighters now operate to 26 destinations. In all, Emirates SkyCargo carries freight in 92 aircraft, including nine freighters, to 83 cities.
