British Airways on Friday said cargo revenue increased 3 percent to 616 million pounds [$1.2 billion] in fiscal 2007-08, powered by a strong recovery in volumes in the second half and "record levels of punctuality."
Cargo revenues gained 30.4 percent to $318 million in the fourth quarter to March 31 and yields, or revenue per metric ton of freight, gained 15.5 percent, to a record 805,000 tons in 2007.
Cargo measured by ton-kilometers increased 4.2 percent above 2006 levels even as the carrier trimmed freight capacity by 3 percent.
The gains follow first-half volume which fell 1.5 percent on-year.
The airline boosted overall pre-tax profit by 44.5 percent to $1.7 billion in the year to March 31, from $1.2 billion in 2006, as revenues climbed 3.1 percent to $17 billion from $16.5 billion.
