The Kansas City Aviation Department and Dallas-based construction firm Trammell Crow on Tuesday unveiled a master plan for the KCI Intermodal BusinessCentre, an 800-acre development at Kansas City International Airport.
Construction of the 300-acre Phase 1 will begin in the fall, and includes infrastructure to support approximately seven buildings offering nearly 2.7 million square-feet of commercial space suitable for intermodal distribution and logistics, and light manufacturing.
Phase 2 will cover 400 acres fronting the airport's main runways for development of air-cargo facilities, airfreight logistics, light manufacturing and assembly and commercial distribution space.
The airport has one the largest Foreign Trade Zones in the United States.
Long-term plans call for mixed use commercial, retail and other development elsewhere in the complex.
