Prices paid for jet fuel in April averaged $1.927 per gallon, according to a report released this week by the Air Transport Association. The jump of 8.7 cents is the largest month-to-month increase so far this year. The price has increased steadily since January, but the percentage increase over last year's prices has steadily slowed. In January airlines paid an average of $1.804 per gallon, up 39.9 percent over January 2005. April's price was 20.4 percent higher than April a year ago.
Airlines consumed 1.59 billion gallons of jet fuel in April, down 2.8 percent from a year earlier and down 84 million gallons from March. Airlines paid a total of $3.07 billion for jet fuel in April, down $16 million from March.
