The board of China Airlines approved Friday the appointment of Sun Huang-Hsiang as president.

Sun currently serves as chairman of the mainland Chinese cargo venture Yangtze River Express Airlines. Taipei,Taiwan-based China Airlines owns 25 percent of the Shanghai, China-based company.

Sun will succeed Ringo Chao, who currently serves as chairman and president of China Airlines.
