Citing the persistent rise in worldwide oil costs over the past 15 consecutive days, one airline after another is raising its fuel surcharge.
The surcharges are all going up to 45 cents per kiliogram or the equivalents in local currencies this month.
Earlier this week NWA Cargo, American Airlines Cargo, Lufthansa and Cargolux notified customers that their charges were going up. (See story.)
On Friday, British Airways World Cargo announced that its increase would be effective July 14.
Keith Packer, Senior Vice President Commercial, said: "In a global market where yields are under considerable pressure, higher fuel costs directly increase the costs of providing airfreight. We simply cannot afford to absorb these extra costs and it is regrettable but inevitable that we have to increase our fuel surcharge in line with our fuel index."
Air France raised its surcharge from only .05 Euros per kilogram to the now common rate of .45 Euros (or 45 cents) per kilogram effective July 7.
In the United States, Martinair Cargo is raising its surcharge effective July 8.
