Russia expands express post with DPD
DPD, the GeoPost Group express parcel subsidiary, has launched an intelligent sort system at its Russia hub in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Region.
The new equipment is manufactured by Beumer, a German material handling company, and will enable DPD to increase its parcels throughput by 50 percent to five million a year.
Wolfgang Lehmacher, CEO of GeoPost Intercontinental said, “In our strategy, Russia holds a strategic position between the European Union, Turkey and the booming Asian market. Over the past five years we have expanded our high quality European platform into a worldwide capability, into a global network. The new sorter is another innovative move in a series of developments not only for customers in Russia, but as well for more than 300,000 customers of GeoPost all over the world.”
DPD handles two million shipments a day with a workforce of 24,000 people and 18,000 vehicles in over 40 countries. The GeoPost Group is owned by France’s La Poste.
