British Airways World Cargo says it’s the first European airline accredited by Envirotainer as a Qualified Envirotainer Provider (QEP) for its temperature-controlled product for pharmaceuticals.

The QEP/CEP Training and Quality Program helps healthcare companies identify providers capable of properly managing shipments using Envirotainer containers, according to a statement from BA this week.

British Airways World Cargo says that five of its Constant Climate stations have now been accredited under the QEP program. They are London Heathrow, Rome, New York JFK, Tel Aviv and Hyderabad. Accreditation follows an audit by Envirotainer and demonstrates a provider meets current Good Distribution Practices guidelines.

“Since we launched Constant Climate in July 2006 we have been committed to delivering Good Distribution Practice and we are delighted to have now achieved QEP Accreditation," says Stuart Forsyth, BA World Cargo’s global product manager. BA plans to extend its quality management procedures across all 60 of its Constant Climate stations, he adds.

Johan Nordenberg, Envirotainer’s Healthcare Sales and Cold Chain Management Director, says: “Our QEP/CEP Training and Quality Program is offered to companies that use our containers as a way to optimize the value they achieve from Envirotainer’s products.” He adds, “The margin for error when transporting highly sensitive pharmaceutical products is so small that embracing QEP/CEP Accreditation is a clear sign of a supplier’s quality and capability.”
