European cargo declines in second half of 2011

Financial problems in the eurozone dominated headlines in 2011, but new ACI Europe data indicates that such troubles didn’t affect airline operations equally. Freight volumes at European airports started off strong last year and then declined in the second half of 2011, while passenger volumes remained robust, improving 7.3 percent, year-over-year.

UPS reports Q4 2011 export growth

Hefty volumes out of Europe and strong intra-regional growth in Asia propelled UPS’ fourth-quarter surge in exports. Increasing 4.5 percent, year-over-year, export volumes also exceeded 1 million pieces a day, on average, for the first time in the logistics provider’s history.

Cargo markets rebound slightly in December

IATA

Global freight volumes rebounded late last year, despite weak traffic throughout 2011, International Air Transport Association data revealed. Growing 0.2 percent, year-over-year, in December, cargo markets recorded a 0.7 percent, year-over-year, loss for the entire 12-month period.
