TIACA Taps Incheon

The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has named South Korea's Incheon International Airport host of its air cargo forum in 2014.

The International Air Cargo Forum & Exposition will be held in the COEX convention center in the World Trade Center Complex in Seoul, TIACA said in a Nov. 24 statement.

Incheon, the world’s second largest international cargo airport, handles 81 percent of Korea’s total air cargo and 25 percent of its total trade volume. Plans call for Incheon to boost its air cargo handling capacity from 2.42 million tonnes to seven million tons per annum by 2020.

The gateway currently generates 20 percent of world GDP and 27 percent of the world logistics volume, according to TIACA.

“We are proud that Incheon International Airport wants to bring TIACA’s Air Cargo Forum to Seoul in 2014 and we know this will be a popular choice for the thousands of delegates and hundreds of exhibitors that will participate in the event,” said TIACA Chairman Ulrich Ogiermann.

He added, “We know executives in the air cargo industry prefer to attend events in the major cargo capitals of the world so Incheon International Airport is a first class host that is setting a benchmark for cargo gateways around the world.”

The 2008 air cargo forum in Kuala Lumpur drew 3,000 industry officials and 218 exhibitors spanning all areas of the air cargo supply chain including 68 airlines, TIACA said.

The event will be hosted by Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in 2010 followed by Atlanta in 2012 - when TIACA celebrates 50 years of its International Air Cargo Forum & Exposition.
